Opening remarks, Day 3

Good morning and welcome to Day 3 of the Nest Campus for Climate Week 2026. My name is Kat Dunn and I'm your MC. Over the last two days we've covered the full arc — from the political and financial foundations of the transition, through the technology sectors, the supply chains, and the frontline stories. Today we look at what the economics of a resilient planet actually look like. It's shaping up to be a strong finale.

You may be able to tell from my accent that I'm not "from" around "here". Although, given our Global Village, what we mean by "from" and "here" is worth thinking about.

I'm an Australian citizen, who was born in the Philippines, with a company and family in the US. So despite being "from" the literal other side of the world, I am profoundly impacted by events "here" in New York. Applied to me, the best definition of "from" and "here" is: Earth. And if any of you answered a form asking for your address with "Earth" – you may not be specific, and you may be called obtuse – but you wouldn't be wrong.

As a systems entrepreneur, I think about that which invisibly connects us all the time.

I entered climate work through international development. I worked with Bangladeshi Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus to bring Grameen-microfinance to Australia. He envisions a world of 3 Zeros: Zero Poverty, Zero Unemployment, and Zero Net Carbon Emissions. At the risk of sounding like an LLM, his non-obvious solution to poverty was offering entrepreneurial BUT asset-poor women, microcredit to start businesses - replacing asset-collateral with social collateral and education. He solved a social problem, not with charity, but by changing the rules of banking.

How is this relevant to Climate Week? Because we are at Nest - and the economy is nested within a society, which itself is nested inside Planet Earth. Building climate resilience requires many of us to collaborate across diverse domains from all over the world. It may be the non-obvious ideas, alongside the traditional ones, that inspire scalable solutions to the daunting prospect of climate resilience, adaptation and human wellbeing.

I encourage you to listen to each talk not as a discrete silo of information but as one part of an 8 billion and 1.5 to 2 degree piece puzzle, that we all need to assemble together.

Whilst many others are looking at the supply side question of AI-use, at Talk2View we're looking at the demand side. We arrived at Climate through Medical Imaging. We found a non-obvious bottleneck to solving human disease: confusing software interfaces. If you've ever been told "you're still on mute" - you know what I mean.

The software that inspired us was so technical, "burnt out clinicians" - or should I say: "clinicians" - refused to learn it, even when it could give them imaging breakthroughs. That's when we realised there was no point doing more research while that bottleneck exists. The problem is not just in medical imaging and not just the front end.

Most people can't distinguish between "what I need exists under 50 buttons" with "what I need doesn't exist at all" so they make, or buy, something new, and usually keep paying for the old one too. This creates digital waste by fooling us into abandoning perfectly capable software then…duplicating it. This is the digital equivalent of demolishing a building you could've simply refurbished.

Right now the market is panicking about SaaSpocalypse or software being made obsolete by AI-alternatives. We're trying to avoid that waste. Talk2View makes existing software actually usable. It's a universal interface that lets you operate software in your native language, instead of pressing buttons. It doesn't replace your software, it is a layer that upcycles it, preserving its value inside the digital circular economy.

I believe change fatigue – including related to climate change – isn't just a human energy problem, it's a system design problem. And changing a system starts with an open mind and willingness to question our assumptions.

I encourage you to think about what you're hearing next through a systems-lens. What's the next non-obvious frontier for the climate and resilience economy? And how can you listen with fresh ears, see with fresh eyes, learn with open minds and feel our collective impact with open hearts.
